Although no two life stories are the same, I have found money to be a common, powerful underlying entity that can hinder or heighten an individual’s ability to live a life of joy and fulfillment.

I came face to face with this both in my own life, and through hearing others’ stories during my work as a mental health counselor. In my narrative, as well as countless others I sought to help, money was often the “problem” or the “ultimate (elusive) solution”- rarely was it “the way.”

It was not truly until I was immersed in the financial industry (by way of helping my husband who had just bought a financial advising practice), that I began to examine my, as well as others’ relationship with money (e.g. what stories do we internally tell ourselves about money on the day to day). It hit me squarely in my consciousness how I can continue my work of helping others by utilizing money as the catalyst for changing ones life. I have had the beautiful opportunity to truly observe those we serve at Shinneman Wealth Group, and I have been able to gleam wisdom from those genuinely “rich” in this life. And by “rich,” I do not necessarily mean wealthy with dollars.

I feel it is my job to bring this wisdom and the practical strategies I have learned to the community around me. And that, my friends, is at the core of it all- It’s the reason I created Positive Mental Wealth Financial Coaching. This is also central to my husband’s drive and mission in his Financial Advising Company, Shinneman Wealth Group. We want to help others position their finances so that they can build and sustain lives they love.

Perhaps Charlie and I feel this sentiment so strongly because we both lost members of our immediate families to suicide. I lost my father in 2009 (I believe money played a large part in his struggles) and Charlie lost his brother in 2010. When we met in 2015, we instantly connected over suicide-survivorship and the core belief of this life being a precious gift. We have seen first-hand just how short this life can be, and how our decisions to live impact all those around us.

We are THANKFUL FOR THIS DAY (which is everyday) and we do not want to squander it!
